The settlement alleges that the defendants violated federal antitrust laws by conspiring to constrain beef supplies in the US, thereby artificially inflating domestic beef prices paid by direct purchasers. One of many allegations is that the Defendants expressly agreed to reduce their cattle purchases and slaughter volumes with the purpose and effect of increasing their margins. The Defendants control about 85% of the US beef market.
Any person or business who purchased beef processed from Fed Cattle, for use or delivery in the US, directly from any of the listed Defendants or their respective subsidiaries and affiliates. Excluded is ground beef made from culled cows.
